A.W.C. MILL POSSIBILITY

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) CANBERRA.

The Australian Wool Corporation may establish its own woollen mills and produce garments under legislation now being debated in the Australian House, of Representatives. The Minister of Agriculture (Senator Kenneth Wriedt) has denied that the bill represented any nationalisation, or socialisation, of the industry. The new powers he said, would be used by the corporation in the interests of the industry.

Senator Wriedt, who said that it was a matter of Government principle that its trade organisations should be able to exercise their own commercial judgment in the same manner as private firms, added that while he could not see the A.W.C. entering the textile industryin the foreseeable future, that possibility could not be ruled out in the long term.
