‘Mansonil justified’
Although hydatids control has become dearer because of the use of the drug Mansonil, the cost has apparently been justified with a marked decrease in the infestation of taenia ovis, which has been as high as about 10 per cent. The chairman (Mr C. N. Mackenzie) in his annual report to the Waipara County Council said that since the introduction of Mansonil treatment, only four of the 1521 dogs tested had been found with taenia ovis. This vast improvement was attributed to farmers co-operating by not feeding raw sheep meat to their dogs and to the use of Mansonil. With the certainty of more rigid meat inspection, the full control of hydatids and taenia ovis was justified for economic as well as health reasons, he said.
