Historic trust ‘lacks funds’
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. The New Zealand Historic Places Trust was losing too many battles because of lack of financial backing, said its chairman (Sir Alister McIntosh) in Dunedin. Grants received from the Government were “woefully inadequate” for the organisation’s needs, he said. “We have been carrying on with Kiwi art union handouts —but this is no way to 1 finance the trust. “We should have a very much bigger annual grant to enable us to plan ahead from year to year. At present we cannot do this,” said Sir Alister.
