Around The Green
Burnside has gained a number of newcomers to the bowls tills season and as a result its colts championship has an entry of 16, nine more than last season. The club has also increased to three teams its Robinson Shield entry. A Burnside four, comprising J. Doherty, H. Webb, M. Rees and L. Pope (s), won the recent Hornby W.M.C.’s festival tournament.
Entries for the major championships at Burnside are singles 47, triples 22, pairs 33 and fours 16.
Two teams finished with a possible four wins in an allday tournament at Dallington to find the winner of the Matheson Rose Bowl.
In the play-off D. Stuart’s team of W. Stewart, E. Roberts and E. Buckner was
I for final consideration by ! senior Ministers. 'successful. The runner-up (was D. Martin’s team of B. Hicks, L. Richardson and H. Lack. H. Drewery (Dallington) and H. Webb (Burnside) took the major prizes at the first open tournament at St Albans for the season. In Drewery’s section there were four four-game winners and in the play-off he beat S. Whiteford (St Albans). In the other section there were five teams with three wins and Webb won the play-off I from S. E. Lawson (Christchurch).
