Labour Department enters dispute
. (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 15. The Labour Department has entered the dispute between Lep Transport International, Ltd, and its drivers over whether the drivers should be paid a sl-a-day travelling allowance.
The department sent a telegram to the union, today asking it to agree to use the disputes committee procedure to settle the problem.
The secretary of the union (Mr G. H.. Andersen) said tonight that he had received the telegram and would refer it to the 25 Lep Transport drivers oh Monday morning. If the drivers reject the department’s request, the Auckland Employers’ - Association is expected to ask the Minister of Labour (Mr Faulkner) to take action to • resolve the deadlock.
The drivers at Lep Transport Want the company to consider their claim as an
individual one. But the company and the employers’ association consider that the claim should be looked at industry-wide.
