NATIONAL FENCING
i (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Youth triumphed over experience in the men’s individual foil title of the national fencing championships at the week-end. Dethroning the defending champion, R. Peterson (Wellington). the 18-year-old S. Clarke (Otago-Southland) displayed surprising maturity. When Peterson led 4-2 in the decisive encounter it appeared to be all over for Clark, but he recovered brilliantly to win the bout 5-4. Peterson, however, was not extended in winning the sabre. This put him and Clarke level for the coveted Master-at-Arms Trophy, with G. Stratigopoulos (Wellington) also a strong contender. The epee event today will determine the holder.
