The East German Government has promptly denied West German allegations that her border guards delayed transit traffic to and from West Berlin at three check-points last Friday and ■ Saturday. i The Bonn Government! According to the East German explanation, there was unusual traffic congestion at t'he three checkpoints during the week-end, compelling border guards to keep travellers waiting for up to 30 minutes during the usual controls. In a telex message sent to East Berlin on Sunday, the West German Government asked for an East German explanation for transit delays lasting up to 90 minutes. Mr Boelling said that he welcomed East Berlin’s speedy : reply, but that West Ger- : many would continue to take ; such incidents seriously. ; Under the 1972 four-Power I Berlin Agreement, East ■ Germany is committed to i grant Western travellers i unimpeded transit to West , Berlin. The governing Mayor - of West Berlin (Mr Klaus - Schuetz) has criticised the delays as “cold war tactics.”
