New league contract

It seems highly unlikely that Rugby league in Canterbury will regain the playing services of the former New Zealand forward, W. P. Noonan.

A report in the "Sydney Morning Herald" recently said that Noonan had agreed to a contract binding him to the Canterbury-Bankstown club for the remainder of his career. Noonan, aged 27. has appeared in more than 100 first grade fixtures for CanterburyBankstown since he transferred to Australia in 1970. He could, however, make a return to international football if the Australian Rugby League’s plans to stage a substitute tournament in place of the proposed world championship — which is at present endangered by the reluctance of England and Wales to compete — are realised. Australia has suggested a five-sided series between New' South Wales, Queensland, New Zealand, France and Other Nationalities, a team selected from overseas players in Australia.
