Situation: An anticyclone over New Zealand is moving to the east, and a cold front is moving across the Tasman towards the country. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast: Moderate northeasterlies near the coast, becoming strong in some inland valleys; mainly fair, but rain in the alps, and scattered showers elsewhere this afternoon; warm. Marlborough Sounds: Northwesterly winds becoming strong by this afternoon; mainly fine, but some rain possible by tonight; mild.
Central Marlborough and Nelson: Northerly winds, becoming fresh in exposed places; mainly fine, but rain developing in the western ranges of Nelson during the afternoon and spreading in the evening; mild. Buller and Westland: Moderate to fresh northeasterlies; cloudy; rain spreading north during the morning and reaching Buller by afternoon. Cooler westerlies, the rain easing to showers, and fair intervals are likely in Westland in the afternoon and in Buller in the evening. Outlook: Showers in the west; fair in the east.
