Injured N.Z. netball captain out of test
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON. The captain of the New Zealand women’s netball team, Miss S. Langrope (Canterbury), will not play in the first test match against England at Stoke today.
Miss Langrope, who suffered a back injury a few days before the team left New Zealand, has not been on the court since the incident occurred. Although the injury is not considered serious, she has some discomfort bending or twisting her back. “Shirley is now responding to treatment from a new machine at a clinic in Birmingham,” the team manager, Mr L. Muir, said yesterday. “She will stay in Birmingham for another two days of treatment.” Another New Zealand player, Miss Y. Willering (Auckland), has twisted her ankle, but is still in the running for the test match. SOME PROBLEMS New Zealand opened its tour with a 67-33 win over Birmingham.
“It was particularly pleasing the way the girls adapted to the changed positions,” Mrs Muir said. “But we still have a few problems to be ironed out. “It is a pity we cannot have three of four matches before the first test.”
