Opposition by Mr Watt | CJV.Z. Press Association) I NEW PLYMOUTH. ! Proposed changes in the I affairs of the National Roads i Board have met strong opposition from the board’s chairman and Minister of Works (Mr Watt). He said at New Plymouth that he was completely against the board’s finance coming directly from the Government, and the Ministry of Transport’s becoming more involved in the planning and administration of the board. Direct Government finance ’would not allow the board to I plan far ahead, as it should, ’and the Ministry did not (have the engineering facili- ■ ties to make a worth-while' ' contribution, he said. Speaking at the end of a three-day tour of Taranaki ! with the board, Mr Watt said :jhe voiced his opposition to i the Government commitII tee’s proposals to assure ! i local authority representatives that he had nothing to i do with bringing the propoHsals forward.
