Ms Goodger to offer comic strip
The Socialist Action League candidate in the Sydenham by-election (Ms Kay Goodger) believes the comic strip on contraception, “Too Great a Risk,” provides information in a popular and easily understood way. As part of her election campaign Ms Goodger has had several hundred copies of the comic strip printed for distribution to all who want to see it. “I will be offering this to interested high school students at all schools in the Sydenham electorate. Copies can be obtained from the campaign address, P:O. Box 653.” Ms Goodger said she was also sending one to the Labour candidate, Mr John Kirk, as she was as keen as the Roman Catholic Church was to know where he stood on the issue. “Its frank and nonmoralising approach does away with myths about how to avoid pregnancy. These myths are frequently believed by young women who have been kept ignorant of the real facts — with tragic results,” she said. “In an advertisement sponsored by the Christchurch Catholic Education Board there is not one mention of the rights of high school students to judge the comic strip for themselves, yet many of them are now considered ‘adult’ enough to vote.”
