CORSO head left ‘on principle ’
The former director of CORSO (Mr C. A. Chiles) resigned “on principle” because he had not been told that he would keep his job after the planned restructuring of the organisation by its executive.
Mr Chiles, aged 32, resigned on Thursday after only four months and a half in the position. He had been selected from more than 50 applicants. He said in Hokitika last evening that his position should not have been in doubt, although the executive wanted to be “fair to everyone” by reviewing all head office positions. ! The executive had earlier! ’said that head office staff! t would be reduced at the end I ;of the year, and existing positions would cease. However,: present staff members could. Sapply for the new positions) |after the organisation had! been restructured. i The executive said that it! would announce the new staff!
positions available after restructuring by the end of October. Since his resignation staff members had been informed that they would be told individually, after the announcement, “where they stand,” Mr Chiles said. He was in favour of the restructuring as such, because “it will make CORSO la better organisation,” and Ihe left the organisation on terms with the I executive. Mr Chiles intends to return to his printing business in Auckland, where he still owns a house. He will take a keen interest in the activities of the CORSO committee in Auckland, and will offer himself as a volunteer.
