Funds not for tour
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON.
Funds from the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association’s recent mystery envelope campaign would not be directed to overseas tours. The N.Z.L.T.A. at its executive meeting in Wellington last night said profit would be used for improving tennis in this country. The association was asked in a letter by the Christchurch Committee on Southern Africa not to channel its profits into promoting tours to South Africa. The chairman of the N.Z.L.T.A. (Mr I. D. Wells) said that from the outset his association had told the public where profits would be channelled. “No money from raffles is going into tours overseas. We made it quite clear to everyone,” Mr Wells said.
