BIKES TO BEAT TRAFFIC
Brightly painted yellow bicycles may be chosen soon by the Christchurch Technical Institute as a means of combating innercity traffic problems. A proposal to buy a $2BOO “non-poilutant” electric car for use by members of the institute staff was defeated by a meeting of the institute's council last evening. A suggestion by the City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) of a “fleet” of bicycles, however, was given strong support. In the meantime the council has decided to accept the status quo and buy a medium-sized “pollutant” motor car.
