J' The Rev. J. Mpaayei, the ■ chairman of the United Bible Societies’ general committee f and African regional com--1 mittee, will visit New Zea- ' I land in November. He will e be in Christchurch on 1 November 6. 5 Mr Mpaayei joined the staff of the Bible Society in j 1 Kenya in 1961, and after 11 ' years became its secretary ~ in East Africa. *• He was largely responsible L for the decision of President “: Kenyatta of Kenya to supI port the printing of the 'Kikuyu Bible in 1966. He was offered an ambassadorial post by the Kenyan /Government in 1963, but rejected it because of his work for the Bible Society. Mr Mpaayei, a member of j the Masai tribe, tended; ‘cattle until he was 15. He j later gained an M.A. from Cambridge, and recently! trained as a translation consultant.
