Lawrence in his own car
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The grand prix driver, G. Lawrence, will have his big 5-litre Lola T 332 finished in time for the second round of the P. 0.5.8. 5000 series at Levin on Sunday. New parts for the Singapore Airlines-Wix car arrived from Britain on Tuesday to repair damage sustained in a crash at Surfers’ Paradise in Australia. The Hamilton driver will start favourite in Sunday’s race, his main opposition almost certainly coming from the Christchurch driver, G. Baker, in the PDL FMS. His Lola was unfinished for the first round of the series at Ruapuna last weekend, and Lawrence borrowed a two-litre Brabham he sold last year to W. David (Taupo). Although he was fastest on a wet track in practice the five-litre cars of N. Doyle, F. Bray and Baker beat him on a dry track during the two heats of the race itself. The 5000 series — New Zealand’s major car racing championship — will continue at Pukekohe and Manfield the two week-ends after Levin.
