i Michael Roland Poharama, aged 28. a prison inmate, was seo--1 tenced to a further year’s gaol Iby Sir Justice Roper in the i Supreme Court yesterday on {Charges of burglary of a house in Holly Road on March 18 and |of being in possession of instruI ments of burglarv bv night on | April «. Mr G. E. Langham appeared I for the Crown, and Mr P. H. B. I Hall for Poharama, who is serv- ‘ Ing 18 months for burglary. ' His Honour said that Poharama ,had an appalling list of previous ' convictions and the tragedy was ithat he had the intelligence and. | when he wished, the ability to i work. He was regarded as a good worker. “I accept what Mr Hall has said—that you had a poor start with very little opportunity—but as against that it seems from the probation report that you ] will not accept help w hen it is offered. “It is certainly too soon te write you off. and I think at this stage it would be wrong to Impose a sentence which would destroy all hooe. “However, this was a burglary There was almost 888" worth of property involved, and burglary is rife in Christchurch lat present.”
