Exuberant welcome
(N.Z.P.A. Stajj Correspondent RAROTONGA, Oct. 1. The Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) and the leaders of Fiji, Western Samoa, and Niue received nearRoyal welcomes when they arrived at Rarotonga in Cook Islands this afternoon.
More than 1000 people—a tenth of Rarotonga’s population—were at the airport for the welcoming ceremony. Dances, speeches, presentation of garlands, prayers, and handshakes went on for an hour before the visitors could leave the airport. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Muldoon), who has been much criticised in the Cooks for his recent com-' ments on possible repatria-1 tion of Island offenders, was: also singled out for special: welcome. However, the Cook Islands: Premier (Sir Albert Henry) welcomed the Labour M.P. for Western Maori, Mr K. T. Wetere, before giving “a warm welcome to another old friend, Rob Muldoon.”
