No devaluation air-fare rise
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Passenger fares and cargo rates charged by Air New Zealand will not Ise adjusted as a result of devaluation. Mr J. B. Wisdom, director of commercial services, confirmed this today, not withstanding that the airline will incur some additional costs as a direct result of devaluation — particularly in the servicing of loans used to buy aircraft. Fare increases which come into effect on October 1 on Tasman, Pacific Islands and Orient routes were negotiated in August and approved by the Minister of Civil Avia-i tion (Dr Finlay), on September 20, several days before the announcement of devaluation. Mr Wisdom said that these were the first increases related to general costs and inflation — as opposed to specific increases related to fuel — since April, 1973.
