Copper exports restrained
(X.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) TOKYO, Oct. 1. Japan is voluntarily restraining her copper exports to below half their previous level because of a strong request from copper-export-start of the race.—Leigh cline in world copper prices. The Japanese Ministry of Trade and Industry says that it is urging copper smelters and trading firms to hold down export shipments, and has stopped authorising consignment export sales of copper, under which stocks are held at the London Metal Exchange on a consignment basis. As a result, Japan s monthly copper exports on a contract basis are down to less than a half of the 30,000 to 40.000 tonnes a month sold in the summer. The sharp decline in world copper prices has also reduced interest among Japanese exporters and overseas buyers.
