Advertising We wish to protest against the N.Z.B.C. decision to encroach on the wonderful ad-free time on television. It is extreme cultural pollution to interupt a good film five times to tell us about some wonder-soap, wonder-food etc. We all Ipok forward to ad-free time especially after the N.Z.B.C. squeezed in a quick one between news and weather, which is exceptionally distracting. — Anti-Tel-Ad. I wish to record the strongest possible objection j to the latest proposal by thej N.Z.B.C. to extend television advertising to Friday nights. Such a move two years ago required permission from the Broadcasting Authority which called for objections; then after a hearing date was set, the N.Z.B.C. withdrew its application. Advertising extension was clearly unpopular. It would be sad if the first positive move by the new authority was to illow the N.Z.B.C. application without also allowing the public an expression of opinion. We must not overlook the fact that the M.Z.B.C. has recently extend- ; »d the hourly advertising' tontent on television. Friday night is the only evening opportunity of seeing an old novie uninterrupted. Saturday’s movie is regularly spoiled by commercial oreaks. Can the advertisers rot wait a few more months or the second channel? — IM REED
