Sindacato fancied in first leg today

(“The Press’’ Special Service) , AUCKLAND. Sindacato and Jackee have to overcome wide barrier positions at the Waikato Hunt meeting at Te Rapa today. but they should b< hard to beat, Sindacato in the first leg ot the T.A.B. double, the Members' Memorial, and Jackee in the second leg, the Wvnn Brown Memorial—. ._ Sindacato will be having his second .race of the season. Jackee. an the othei hand, has had hve starts al readv for a first, second and two fourths in his last four starts. As good as Jackee? record is. that of Sindacato, as he wound up last season, was even better. He was successful in each of his last three races, in middle distances at Rotorua and Te Awamutu (twice!. Sindacato won decisively each time and came back after a let-up with a promising fourth: behind Cornelius. Gold Jet ai.d Zoroaster over 1600 m at Te Rapa on September 14. Gold Jet, though yet to win a middle-distance race, might make Sindacato work hard again, but a more likely prospect to get his first success over 2000 m Is Kauere Lad. Kauere Lad looked very good coming through intermediate companv towards the end of the winter then did well to run Captain Jason close over 1600 m at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting on August 24. A slow starter, Kauere Lad had to run on very well for his wins. He has been beaten twice lately, in sprints at the Avondale spring meeting, when almost certainly finding the distances too short. Forest Fair, a winner at his last start; and Sauron, the runner-up on that occasion, are entitled to consideration, as is Tulamarie. which has shown much of her best form at Te Rapa. CONSISTENT Jackee, a Takanini four-year-old, rounded off last season with a third, a second and a fourth in his last three attempts. He has been only once unplaced in his last eight races. He has the early quickness to race up near the front, even from so wide at the start, and considerable gameness as well. Prince Shifnal. if, he. is going to regain the form which made him a very good two-year-old, should make a showing and Timon is worth attention. STEEPLES CHANCE The Waikato Hunt Cup looks a good chance for Kip Again, the top-weight with 64.5. He was unplaced last time, but that was on the flat, at Te Aroha. He failed only by inches the time before to beat Execute in a steeplechase at Rotorua and took a steeplechase double at Trentham In July. After rain last week-end rhe track is almost certain to be heavy.
