Views on the elections
Dirty linen Sir, — If Mr Hay and his team wish to get an overwhelming vote for the City Council they should get cracking on a first-class pick up and deliver laundry service for Christchurch and surrounding districts. — Yours, etc., EXASPERATED. September 27, 1974. Party policies
Sir, — We both agree with, and disapprove of, your editorial of September 28. How right you were to suggest that the policies of Labour and Citizens provide nothing for the electors of Christchurch to be excited about, but how remiss of
you to neglect to mention the alternative. The policies of the Values Party must attract much support, not only for their intrinsic merit, but also because, by comparison with those of the other parties, they are exciting and innovative. — Yours, etc., G. L. ALEXANDER, R. J. ALEXANDER, D. C. HUGHES, B. HUGHES, R. BESLEY, S. BESLEY. September 28, 1974. / Party system
Sir, — There has been a lot said lately, with the local body elections coming up, about political parties in local affairs. Well, whether we like it or not, we seem to have a “party” system for local bodies which, after all, is only a type of political system whatever any of the parties may wish to call themselves. Looking at the lists of candidates for the city area Independents only feature five times and that would not fill the membership of any of the council or boards. Therefore, the logical thing is to vote for the members of the party whose policy will meet your requirements. — Yours, etc., A. J. G. September 28, 1974.
