Whitebait scarce
(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT, Sept. 1.
There were possibly more duckings in Buller streams than fish when the whitebaiting season opened on Saturday.
One young man, who had camped all night in a good position, took a dive into the Buller and saw two whitebait. Another went off the Westport wharf when trying in vain for a sighting of whitebait.
Heavy seas and cold winds did not promise a good opening and not even early price lists wete exhibited by the usual buyers.
