Brockworth Ace and Felicity Jane will do their future racing in the interests of Mr Y. Baillergeon, of Quebec, Brockworth Ace, a six-year-old gelding by Johnny Globe from Bonnie Doon, won five races for Mrs D. M. Washbourne, for whom he was trained by D. D. Nyhan. Felicity Jane failed to win a race for her trainer, J. G. Shaw, but she was placed. OBITUARY Mr K. G. McLaughlin The death occurred in Ashburton on Wednesday of Mr K. G. McLaughlin, one of Canterbury's best-known owners. One of the top performers to carry the McLaughlin colours in early post-war years was Swayup, whose victories included the 1949 Dunedin Guineas. Other useful winners for Mr McLaughlin, in partnership with his late father in the early and mid-19505, were Johnny Peep, Aquarius and Porcelain Prince.

Two of Mr McLaughlin’s best winners in more recent years were Gay Defoe, a dual C. J. C. Metropolitan Handicap winner, and Glamis Lad. These two, between them, won 31 races and more than $51,000 in stakes.

Dashing, the winner of 11 races for Messrs N. W. Crosbie and E. C. S. Falconer, was aquired by Mr McLaughlin as a six-year-old and won two further races for him. Among the foals he bred from her was Flying Time, the dam of Maclane, winner of the White Stone Handicap at Oamaru last Monday week.

Showed much promise last season and must be considered. Scratched: Seafield Dauphine. Marlborough “s growth The growth of (he Marlborough Trotting Club was emphasised by the retiring president (Mr A. E. Cresswell) in his report to the annual meeting held earlier in the week. On-course betting of $220,350 at the club’s 1974 jneeting had exceeded the total on and off-course betting in 1968. For the sixth consecutive year record betting figures had been returned. Stakes in 1968 were $ll,lOO, said Mr Cresswell, while in 1974 the total had been $27,100, of which the Racing Authority subsidy amounted to $B5OO. Some 200 horses raced at this year’s meeting, compared with 175 last year and 107 in 1968. It was in the interests of owners and breeders that extra permits be secured to offset the increase in the number of horses available and the reductions in the safety numbers on the various courses. He hoped that the Marlborough club would be successful in its endeavours to obtain some of the new permits expected, said Mr Cresswell. The club showed a loss of $2038, compared with a loss of $l5BO for the previous year and $3319 in 1972. Additional race meetings were needed to offset thehigh costs of maintenance at the racecourse at Waterlea. TV in drivers’ room The installation of a colour television receiver in the drivers’ room at Addington Raceway has been most favourably received. Videotape of each race is re-run about five minutes after the finish of the event and these are closely followed by all in the room.

For Hastings.—La Foudre, which will travel to Marton with R. E. Verner’s team next week, may resume at Hastings.
