Ballycastle ready
(“The Press'* Special Service) WANGANUI.
Ballycastle showed that he would be a chance in the Owen Handicap at the local meeting with a bold final gallop at Wanganui yesterday.
Trials took place 15 metres out on the course proper, which was easy. If there is no further rain the track should be one of the best in the lower North Island for some time.
Ballycastle ran on strongly in the last 50 metres to shade La Foudre at the end of 800 metres in 52 2-ssec, the last 600 m in 39sec. Ballycastle’s ability to sprint well in a fresh state cannot be overlooked.
Fair Warning emphasised his readiness for a bold race in the Wanganui Motors Handicap when he sprinted 600 m effortlessly in 37 3-ssec. He has done well in the last fortnight.
