Success for Suzuki

The Japanese Suzuki factory recently gained its first success with one of its new square four 500 c.c. racers when the Englishman. Barry Sheene, won an international event at Silverstone at an average speed of 104 miles an hour.

Sheene defeated the reigning world 500 c.c. champion. Phil Read (M.V. Agusta, Britain), and the brilliant Finnish works rider for Yamaha, Teuvo Lansivuori. But Read had the satisfaction of setting a new lap record for the class of 106.44 miles an hour.

Later, Sheene gained further honour for Suzuki when he won the John Flayer open grand prix of 20 laps on his three-cylin-der 750 Suzuki. In this event, Sheene set a new absolute lap record of 107.74 miles an hour. Lansivuori was runner-up on a Yamaha.
