Aust. couple murdered
(N.Z Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY, August 13. A bush prowler has killed and robbed a middle-aged couple in a suburban Sydney picnic spot. A team of Sydney detectives working on the case are examining the wooded area around which the couple were found sprawled next to their bullet-riddled car, having been shot down with a burst from a highvelocity Ml carbine. A park ranger found the man, who appeared to have been shot while in the act of opening the boot, and the woman dead by the driver’s door. The couple’s clothes and belongings had been rifled. The dead man was Mr John Barton, aged 56, a member of an airline flight crew, and a friend, Mrs Rosemary Sutherland-Smith, aged 63. Obituary The Australian artist, Alexander Saint Pauli, has died in Adelaide, aged 71. Born and educated in Adelaide, he went in 1930 to Paris, where he remained for more than 40 years. He became well known for his portraits, including those of Earl and Countess Mountbatten. Seriously ill, he returned to Adelaide from Paris last year. — Adelaide, August 13.
