Situation: A small depression is slowmoving west of Taranaki, and another small depression is moving east to the north of the North Island; a stationary anti-cyclone lies south of the Chatham Islands and a moist easterly airstream flows on to eastern districts. Forecast: Canterbury, Kaikoura Coast: Light or moderate winds, mainly from the south or east; misty rain persisting about the coast but becoming fine inland; cool.

Central Marlborough and the Sounds: Fresh to strong south or south-east winds in exposed parts of the 1 Sounds, light easterlies i elsewhere; cloudy; drizzle spreading; cool. s Nelson: Easterlies fresh about Golden Bay but 5 mainly light elsewhere; partly cloudy; moderate 1 temperatures; sunny periods this afternoon.
