Cowan plans to ride in a; jumping race at Oamaru nextl week, and then to give the game; ! best. Since he started as an appren j tice with C. J. Walsh on the; West Coast, Cowan has ridden 211; winners. 108 of them over fences. I Highlights of his career were: ; Grand National Steeplechase victories on Game Call and Enceeoh: and a Grand National Hurdles win on Vamoose. For a time he moved to the North Island, and struck up a | successful partnership with the hurdler, Bombay. Since his return to Washdyke he has Widened his sporting in-; terests and is now part-owner: of Avon Song, a winner against; the pacers. He also owns a half-brother by Tuft to Tmatoff. a good winner ; in Australia. *
