ERBSHAUSEN (Bavaria). The performance of the New Zealand rowing team at the two-day Hanover regatta was right up to the expectations of team officials of this stage of preparations for the world championships. ■ The eight easily beat the Australians on Saturday, but I took them too lightly on Sunday, and was beaten by a length. It looked lethargic. The team manager (Mr W. Wrathall) said he thought the eight was jaded after Saturday’s performance. COMPLAINT “it complacently sat on its 1 big win on the first day.' Then, too, the course was affected by the wake of spectator craft, and this is something we do not have to put up with in New Zealand,” Mr Wrathall said. “J complained to the regatta control, and they reassured me that the drivers
I of boats accompanying race* were experienced men. The complaints were all to no avail, and the broken water affected ail rhe crews." As the quadruple scull* was not included on the Hanover programme. the New Zealand crews had to be content to row in the. double sculls event. They had a first and second on Saturday and a first placing on Sunday The coxless four was the best New Zealand crew at the regatta. It pressed the West German national club crew from Dortmund, which) had so easily beaten it two weeks before. After the Duisburg loss. G R. F. McAuley. I U.
