Cocos Islands visit ends
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) CANBERRA, August 12. A report by a United Nations mission to the Cocos Islands, and the copra estate of Mr John Clunies Ross, who rules over 500 Malay islanders, is awaited. The mission returned to Canberra today after five days on the islands, “fully aware of the enormous difficulties Australia faces in easing the islanders into the twentieth century.” Mr Clunies Ross is the fifth generation of his family to control the estate on which the entire Malay population works.
