OSAKA BAN ON JUMBOS
Britain seeks compensation I (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter — Copyright) TOKYO, August 12. i Japan has no intention of accepting a British demand for compensation for a ban on British jumbo jets landing at Osaka, according to a Ministry of Transport spokesman in Tokyo. [ In three sessions of talks in London since March, Britain has asked that British Airways Boeing 747 s be allowed into Osaka, or Japan should make annual compensation payments. The Japanese have denied press reports that Britain has asked for £360,000 a year, [The spokesman said that no exact amount had been proposed. All jumbo jets are banned from Osaka because local people fear noise pollution, he added.
