CRASHED PLANE
Apology may be sought <NZ.P A.-Reuter) | OTTAWA, August 11. | Canada would demand com-, pensation from Syria and expect an official apology if al United Nations report showed! that Syria was responsible for the crash of a Canadian plane on Friday, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said. The spokesman said the Government was aware of reports that ’he Buffalo plane) — which crashed near a) Syrian village killing all nine Canadian servicemen aboard' — had been downed by a Syrian missile, but full details; were still awaited. "Officially, it’s still not: clear what happened.” he; said. Syria had offered an ex-! planation about the incident to the United Nations for which the plane was on a tour of duty. This was being studied at United Nations headquarters before being sent to Ottawa. The nine Canadians were members of the United Nations Emergency Force in the Middle East and en route! to Damascus from Beirut at: the time of the crash. Bus-train crash At least 12 people have; been killed and 15 others injured in a bus-train colli-1 sion at Calumpit, just north | of Manila. The bus over-1 turned and fell into a ditch by the roadside upon impacts —Manila. August 11.
