Rode winner 56 years ago
Mr F. W. Ellis, who redo Kauri King to win the Grand National Hurdles 54 years ago, will be at Riccarton for the eighty-fifth hurdles contest today. Mr Ellis is an elder brother of A. E. (Bert) Ellis, who had four victories in the race, two of them in Padishah. Fred Ellis has been living in retirement for several years since ending a distinguished record as a trainer in Southland. Today he will have a chance to exchange memories of longpast Grand National Hurdles with Mr J. R. Kaan, of Christchurch, who won the IM4 race on Lochson.
