Kainga search for woman
The police will search Kainga and Stewarts Gully this morning for the missing Hanmer Springs woman, Mrs Barbara Mary Moore, and her two-year-old daughter, Sarah.
Members of a party of eight policemen will show a photograph of the couple to every householder in the area, and will ask them to watch for Mrs Moore and her daughter. A sighting of a woman and child was reported at Kainga on Sunday, food was stolen from a bach recently and bread and milk money has been taken from houses in the township. .The police searched several miles of the Waimakariri River bed and checked baches yesterday afternoon. “It is a very strange case,” said Inspector Perring. “It was drizzling on Sunday, but the couple who were sighted were not wearing coats, and no-one knows what they were doing there. “The woman ran off straight into the forest and not, as one would think, towards the houses nearby. We were able to tell where they had gone from the broken
branches, but the trail vanished after half a mile. “Whether they were Mrs Moore and her daughter we just do not know. A lagoon near Kainga was also searched yesterday. A second bach that police; thought might have been broken into has been cleared It was up for sale and had been left open for inspection.
