Australian wheat imported into New Zealand cost about $1 a bushel more than the going price for South Island wheat, the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Freer) said. Replying'to Mr L. W. Gandar (Nat., Ruahine), Mr Freer said the wheat for baking purposes was imported to Palmerston North at a cost of $3.52 a bushel, compared with $2.45 a bushel for i South island wheat. Mr Freer said everv effort was being made to ’ enable the Wheat Board to get adequate supplies of suitable (wheat. ( Bakers in Palmerston North, who had called the . wheat “rubbish,” “of poor (quality” and the “worst ever. • seen,” would not have had any problems if they had followed the instructions of the Wheat Research Board, he isaid.
