‘Rules’ side may visit
Two of Melbourne’s top Australian Rules Football teams will probably play an exhibition match at Lancaster Park on October 20. The Christchurch Jaycees are at present negotiating with the Victorian Football League—the game's controlling body in Melbourne—for two teams to tour New Zealand in October.
It is hoped that the teams will play exhibition matches at Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington. At a meeting of the Victory Park Board last evening, the board approved October 20 as a possible date for the proposed game to be held. Some concern was expressed that the game could cut up the field, hampering preparation of the pitch for the coming cricket season. However, other members pointed out that Australian Rules does not cut up the field as much as Rugby league of Rugby union.
