(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK. The Italian-born Mario Andretti led from start to finish in a 100-mile Formula 5000 road race for his first major triumph in the United States in three years. On the twenty-first lap he set a Formula 5000 speed record for a single circuit — of 119.89 m.p.h. Fifty seconds behind Andretti was B. Redman (Britain), with E. Wietzes United States, (Lola T 332) third and G. Mcßae (New Zealand) fourth, ahead of S. Posey (United States).
Cycling.— E. Merckx (Belgium) had a record twenty-sixth stage victory in the Tour de France in Spain.
