Soyuz men go to work

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) MOSCOW,. July 5. Two Soviet cosmonauts linked their orbiting capsule to a Russian space laboratory today in a practice mission for a rendezvous above the Earth next year with United States astronauts. The official Tass news agency said the two cosmonauts “feel well” after docking their Soyuz 14 space ship with a Salyut 3 scientific station, entering the laboratory, and going to work. The agency said the cosmonauts — Colonel Pavel Popovich and Lieutenant-Colonel Yuri Artyukhin — went into the laboratory through a transfer hatch and “the crew of the orbiting station has started to fulfil its programme.”

“The process of approach, station keeping and docking of the space craft passed normally,” Tass said. The agency said the early part of the approach was handled automatically, but the two cosmonauts took over the docking operation for the last 100 yards.
