(N.Z. Presi Awoctatton) WELLINGTON, luly 3.
The Wellington chartered accountant, Mr R- W. Stannard, who has been appointed by the Government to manage the Cornish group of companies, has never met the group’s founder, Mr A. S. Cornish.
“No, I’ve never met him,” Mr Stannard said at a press conference tonight. “But I’m looking forward to it.” Mr Stannard was asked by the Government on Saturday if he would manage the group’s affairs. “I thought it over, and gave my answer on Sunday evening,” he said.
Mr Stannard said Mr Cornish intended to retire.
The group’s secretary (Mr D. Walker), who was also at the press conference, said: “It would be fair to say that Mr Cornish said some time ago he intended to retire, and in the last two years he has been working towards that objective.”
