Mairehau is qualifier

Mairehau High School qualified for the final of the New Zealand girls’ secondary school basketball championship when it defeated Linwood High School, 81-36, in the zonal tournament at Ashburton.

The reigning national champion, Mairehau defeated Hagley High School (78-31), Timaru Girls’ High School g'3-32) and Christchurch iris’ High School (104-17) before reaching the final. In the other section, Linwood defeated Pleasant Point (8726) and Ashburton (84-32).

For the second successive year, Mairehau will be the only school represented in both girls* and boys’ national finals. The boys’ team had qualified for the third successive season. Both finals will be held in August.
