Liaison officer for Minister

A former Dunedin city councillor, Mr A. S. Abernethy, has been appointed as liaison officer to the Minister of Housing (Mr Fraser).
He will be personal assistant to Mr Fraser. Mr Abernethy, aged 53, was a member of the Dunedin City Council from 1950 to 1961. A printer by trade, Mr Abernethy was also chairman of the Dunedin Metropolitan Milk Board for three years as well as a member of the Dunedin Metropolitan Regional Planning Authority. He left the city in 1961 to take up a position as South Canterbury Public Relations Officer, in Timaru. For the past year he has been working in the printing industry in Christchurch. Mr Fraser said that the appointment of Mr Abernethy as his liaison officer was a temporary one. probably for the next 12 months. “My work load has become ; such that I need a personal assistant. With his expert-
ence of public relations, local 1 body administration, State housing needs, and town planning, Mr Abernethy is admirably suited to the task,” the Minister said. Mr Fraser is also a former Dunedin city councillor. He served from 1953-56 at the same time that Mr Abernethy was on the council.
