Clean water for villages
Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland is to supply aid for the provision of clean water and sanitation to villages in the Gilbert and Ellice Islands.
The project, which was instigated by the United Nations Children’s Fund (U.N.1.C.E.F.), covers three phases, the first of which brought clean water to six villages on two islands. It is hoped that the second phase, which has been adopted by the Soroptimists, will be completed this year. Clean water will be provided in the villages of Barebuka, Bakaka and Barakawa on the island of Tamana, and Roreti and Tamaroa on the island of Arorae and will affect about 3000 people. The Soroptimists aim to raise $16,500 towards the project. ,
