Holiday trip today for the Pollards
The cricket-soccer international, V.. Pollard, leaves New Zealand today for a sixmonth “holiday-see relations-see Europe” trip. “And if anyone asks me to play village green cricket, I’d love to have a go,” he said yesterday.
“I’ve got my creams packed, and a white shirt, so 1 wouldn’t mind at all a chance to play,” he said. He said that if the chance came to play a first-class match—such as for one of D. H. Robbins’s elevens—he would consider it an honour. “But I’ve no real intention of playing any code of sport,” said Pollard. “It’s my wife’s trip really, and we will have enough to do with visiting relations, spending perhaps a couple of months in Europe, and watching a bit of test cricket.” Both Pollard and his wife, Karen, were bom in England, and Pollard has had three trips to his homeland—which he left when he was seven—with New Zealand cricket teams in 1965, 1969, and last year. Pollard was bom in Lancashire.
The pair will return to Christchurch in midNovember and, said'Pollard, “I’ll have to get the creams on and play. I hope East-Shirley are top of the competition by then."
