> Angus bulls in the world, ,0. Massive of Kaharau, has t been sold to a North American syndicate for ***£ $lOO,OOO — an Australian and New Zealand record.

The bull was owned by Messrs R. B. Johnson, of Mt Torlesse Station, and F. F. Wilding, of Te Mania, Hundalee, Messrs A. T. Reid (New South Wales) and D. Canning (Virginia, United States) held a quarter interest

Massive, a rising six-year-old, which weighs more than a ton, left Rukuhia today to be airfreighted to Hawaii, on the first leg of his journey to Edmonton, Canada. He will be quarantined at Hawaii for a month.

He was bred by H. E. and C. S. Williams, of Ruatoria, near Gisborne and sold to the present owners in 1973 for the Australian and New Zealand record price of $21,000.

Since that time the owners held Massive at the A.B. centre of New Zealand Sire Services, Ltd, at Rukuhia, near Hamilton, for semen collection. Massive is said to have been the most prolific semen producer of any breed at any .centre in New Zealand.

A bigger sum is involved in semen concessions, and the present owners also hold options to take shares in the syndicate. “This transaction is a tremendous compliment to New Zealand’s stud stock industry,” said the general manager of the Fanners Stud Stock and Land Company, Ltd (Mr J. Dowthwaite) today.
