RANDOM REMINDER
There is a time and a place for everything, so they say. Some things should be done at the appropriate time, and some just when opportunity allows. The timing in today’s action might not have been as Emily Post would have recommended, but one must seize one’s chances as they come. The principals of c ir drama were employed at premises adjacent to the waterfront, where they frequently spent part of the lunch hour sitting in the sun. One of the staff,
a single man who resided in a boarding house, was frequently the target of much criticism for his hygiene, or rather his lack of it. Those who w’orked near him claimed he most definitely did not smell like “nine out of ten film stars.” But the regular complaints went unheeded. On the day of action, our odourous character was sitting on the edge of the wharf absorbing his latest piece of science fiction; when he overbalanced and fell into the hafrbour. His workmates sprang into action. One
ran for assistance, one ran for a lifebouy, and number three walked into their place of work. Number two arrived quickly with the lifebouy and cast it into the harbour. Unfortunately it jerked the rope from his hand, and the odourous one, very reluctant to let go of "the pile he was holding, continued kicking, splashing, and spitting out surplus water. Number three reappeared on the scene and strolled to the edge of the wharf where with studied deliberation he carefully threw in a cake of soap. I
