Tour ends in defeat

(N.Z Press Assn —Copyright) MELBOURNE.

In a hard-fought game, the New Zealand under 16 soccer team suffered its only defeat of a six-match Australian tour when it was beaten by Victoria, 3-4, at the weekend. All three goals resulted from bad defensive lapses. New Zealand again played with good understanding, skill and combination, but lacked the penetration of its previous games. Shots by R. Mulligan and J. Webber were well saved by the Victorian goal-keeper at vital stages of the game. Outstanding for New Zealand were D. Cole, P. Bennie and Mulligan. The team returns to New Zealand today.
