Siave has easy boxing win

C. Stave (Fidow's Gym), the well-performed Canterbury light-wegiht, gained an easy win over A. Steele (Linwood) in an amateur boxing tournament at the Woolston Workingmen's Club yesterday. Siave, however, met a willing opponent in Steele who threw many punches and kept the more experienced Siave attentive during the bout Although he had Jacked competition recently Siave won the fight with far superior boxing ability.

S. Henry (W.W.M.C.), although shorter by six inches, showed much promise by out-pointing K. Tinkler (Linwood). Henry landed some good left-right combinations to the head of his opponent and won himself the bout on a narrow points decision.

The tournament also featured an exhibition fight between Can-

terbury’s latest professional, S. Elisala, and G. Peters of the Crichton Cobbers. Elisala boxed well within himself and appeared to be very fit, though onlv sparring. Results of other bouts were: S. Mallay (Linwood Bovs Club) beat S. Innes (W.W.M.C.), R. Morgan (Irish Youth Club) beat M. Kerr (Kingburn’s Gvm), B. Mitchell (W.W.M.C.) beat B. McLean (N. Brighton R.S.A.), G. Ihaia (Kingburn’s) beat D. Barry (1.Y.C.), K. Ihaia (Kingburn’s) beat M. Howard (W.W.M.C.), W. Cameron (L.8.C.) beat G. Botterill (W.W.M.C.) (referee stopped contest in the final round). M. Platt ' (W.W.M.C.) beat J. Scullion (1.Y.C.), P. Shadford (N.8.R.5.A.) beat E. Greig (Kingburn’s), A. Lee (W.W.M.C.) beat G. Haar (C.C.C.), J. Carlyle (W.W.M.C.) beat R. Youngman iI.Y.C.) (split decision).
